We visited as part of Heritage Open Day. I believe it is still being used as a Freemasons Lodge and has recently been acquired by Heritage England. The volunteers were very friendly and informative, and we also met a gentleman 8m armour who said he had written a book about Guy.
There is still quite a lot of the site to be made safe, and I'd be interested to return in a few years
We went for a walk around and think we got lucky, as was unlocked, there seemed to be a tour going on and I've seen reviews about ghost tours, which I reckon you can find via Facebook or Google. Stunning place.
A lovely relaxed tour of Guys cliffe. Steeped in history and folklore, it made for a pleasant experience with a knowledgeable guide. Beautiful scenery with a walk way and high views. The tour not only covered the story of Guy of Warwick but also the history of subsequent owners of the land, architects of the buildings and its eventual demise but also a little bit about the free Mason's who have taken on more of a custodial ownership of the remaining property. Really genuinely nice people who also volunteer to maintain the property and provide a smashing selection of refreshments after the tour. For less than £16 per person - it works out at about just over £5 per hour we were there and that's not including the tea and cakes which were complimentary. Definitely worth going to if you have an interest in the history of Warwick and if you have seen Dragon slayer at Warwick castle and want to see where the legend began.
We had a good guided tour around the outside of the house and inside the chapel. Our guide was very informative and we enjoyed his knowledge of Guys Cliffe history.
Amazing place.....and to say it only on the doorstep of Warwick/Leamington too.
Very special and unique place with thousands of years of history. Worth visiting and learning about the surrounding areas. Now it’s been acquired and restored in some parts by the Freemasons. As you can see in the pictures at night it also has a wonderful atmosphere.
I performed in a concert here with Village Voices Choir. The buildings are beautiful, We sang in The Chapel of St. Mary Magdalene,
It makes a very atmospheric venue for performances.
A fabulous location for photo shoots!
We used this amazing location as a creative backdrop for our models.
I design and create headpieces and hats and was part of the styling team for our group of photographers and models.
Beautiful architecture, grounds and features for photographers.
Well worth a visit to walk in the grounds as well!
